Make all the difference to your flower arrangements

By admin | January 12, 2009

There are occasions when foliage that is a bit unusual or special can make all the difference to your floral arrangements. Even a very small garden can support a few special plants. My favourites include Equisetum Hyemale. Some of its common names include horsetail, snakegrass and scouring rush. It has slender evergreen stems which are banded at intervals with rough black stems. It bends very easily at these junctions and can form very interesting shapes.

Hopefully your flower arranging kit contains some heavy guage wires which can be carefully inserted up the stems to reinforce them. Can be quite invasive if planted out in your garden so best grown in a container. Likes moisture and full sun to part shade. It grows between 18″ – 36″ when grown in a container.
