On Doctors and Bike Helmets

By admin | August 2, 2009

Now that the kiddos are 11 and 8, fully comfortable and confident bike riders with the independence to get around our small town on their own, my doctor husband has decided that it’s time they start wearing bike helmets. I just think it’s odd. But I know he’s seen some serious stuff in the ER. I’ve had my fair share of close calls on way to my job in web design in Ann Arbor, too. There are students and pedestrians seemingly hopeful that they get hit the way they lollygag through crosswalks or fling themselves across streets in a drunken state. But for pity’s sake, I know my children are still in that petrified obedient stage where they can’t conjure being unsafe. Still, my husband wins. They wear the helmets to be sure!
