Soda is no longer appealing to me

By admin | February 10, 2008

A few days ago I was talking to my mother and she told me she was giving up soda for lent.  I told her that it was good for her, and said I was proud of her.  Then she asked me for some advice on how to give up soda.  I’d done it, and not just for 40 days, but for nearly a year.  I no longer crave it.  I used to love smelling the stuff, but even that doesn’t really appeal to me anymore – it smells way to sweet now.

So I told her that since she was doing it for Lent, which is 40 days long, that was a good thing.  It meant she wasn’t trying to make a major lifestyle change right off the bat.  She gets 40 days to live life without it and if she decides that soda is what makes life worth living, then she can go back to drinking it.

I also told her how important it was to get it out of the house.  While I can handle being around soda now, and am happy to drink water even when everybody else has soda, it wasn’t always that way.  So I told her that all the soda had to leave the house in one way or another (and drinking it wasn’t an option) so it was inconvenient for her to drink it.
