When Does Obesity Become Morbid Obesity?
By admin | March 26, 2008
Obesity becomes morbid obesity, or literally ‘life-threatening’ obesity, when that obesity creates one or more mechanical or metabolic conditions which are in themselves a threat to your life. For example, the fact that you are carrying a considerable amount of excess weight can, and often does, lead to conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, liver disease, venous thromboembolic disease, degenerative disc disease, degenerative disease of the weight bearing joints and others. Many of these conditions are life-threatening by themselves while others can trigger life-threatening conditions or produce an effect which in combination will kill you. As many people say, being excessively overweight will not in itself kill you, but it will produce a whole series of other problems, one of which will get you in the end!
