How Did Trading Cards Become For Kids?

By admin | February 3, 2009

Card trading, now and in the future, will probably always be thought of as ideal for kids, but why? How did the art of collecting and trading, not to mention preserving the condition of cards, become associated with a bunch of small human beings who are usually rambunctious and irresponsible? Of course, you’ll remember how trading cards like baseball cards were sold with chewing gum, although before that they were stashed away in packages of cigarettes. Then there’s the size of the cards, which originally were meant to fit in wallets, but also slide easily into a little boy’s back pocket. Exactly how the transition was made is uncertain, although the cards’ initial inclusion in packages of caramels and Cracker Jack surely played its role.
