Stock Prices Move in Waves

This is one time when the eyes do not deceive. This is no optical trick. Even a cursory look at stock price charts reveal to the eye that prices do, indeed, move in waves. They are constantly on the move. What is it that ddrivesd the waves? The short answer is that it is human psychology which drives the impulse either to buy or to sell; and oftentimes this is not the result of an individual action, but a response to the need for herd behavior.
This is common in many mammals, including humans. We feel comfort in being with the crowd. It is difficult, sometimes, to be alone – or so it seems – in a contrary position.
A great deal about human emotion is revealed when stock prices are shown in Japanese Candlestick format. The underlying psychology of the market, as a group, comes to the fore. It is especially interesting to see prices forming in real time, to be able to see the ebbs and flows of human emotion as it comes to life on the computer screen.
The Candlesticks are especially good at forecasting major reversals of trend, where the big money can be made. One always has an advantage if he or she can anticipate a change in trend and get aboard early.
